Next up in my Songwriters Series is BC’s Doug Folkins.
Where to start?? Doug is a singer and songwriter, and he’s been signed in both capacities with Nashville publisher Lynn Gann Music Enterprises. Doug co-writes with many Nashville hit makers and recognized Canadian artists like Aaron Goodvin, Don Amero, Buck Twenty, Hailey Benedict, Drew Gregory, River Town Saints, Adam Gregory, James Barker Band, Chris Buck Band, and Makayla Lynn.
More than 130 of his songs have been recorded by artists in the US and Canada along with 70+ radio singles and multiple Film and TV song placements, including NBC’s “The Voice.” CNN, OWN and National Geographic Channel programs.
Doug himself has released 8 singles to Canadian Country radio, as an indie artist, since 2018. His most recent is an up-tempo, working town song, “6 Pack Town.”
In 2019 Doug showcased at the famed Listening Room Cafe in Nashville. Also that year he performed at the CCMA Songwriters Series, a favourite event of the CCMA Weekend. On stage alongside Doug were Lindsay Ell, The Reklaws and Nice Horse.
His song “I Can’t Blame Her” won Best Country Song at the 2018 Canadian Songwriting Competition and charted at #86 BDS in 2021.
His song “Wait on the Weekend” reached #1 on the True North Country Indie Row charts and peaked at #94 on the Canadian Country Mediabase Charts.
Doug is a Canadian rep for Global Songwriters Connection https://globalsongwriters.com/.
Doug has been sharing his knowledge as a FACTOR juror since 2017. In the past he has been a seminar speaker and panelist at the BCCMA industry events.
I would suspect that Doug’s most well-known song, co-written with and sung by Kevin Davison, is “When Those Sirens Are Gone.” This song is about PTSD for first responders. The song was placed in the documentary film, “The Other Side of Hero,” released in 2017. It became a viral hit with 2.1+ million YouTube views.
With many country music nominations under his belt, Doug Folkins is a guy to watch!!
